Review of Gifford House, EdinburghDuring our late October stay, my family and I used Gifford House as a base to explore Edinburgh. The location offers proximity to Holyrood Park and Arthur's Seat, which is commendable. The room was adequately sized, featuring tea and coffee making facilities, though we found the mattresses to be less supportive than expected. While David and Margaret provided commendable hospitality, assisting us with local dining recommendations, the breakfast fell short when compared to prior reviews. It was merely satisfactory rather than exceptional. For a family room, the layout presented challenges, especially with the bathroom door opening inwards. A significant consideration for potential guests is the parking situation. The owners mentioned ample free parking, but we struggled to find spaces nearby, which added inconvenience. While Gifford House delivers a basic standard of cleanliness and comfort, one might find better value, especially with similar accommodations offering competitive pricing. Ultimately, the balance between luxury and cost here may not meet everyone's expectations, particularly in a city rich with alternatives.
